What is "blacktop?"
Blacktop
is a black bituminous material used for paving roads
or other areas; usually spread over crushed rock. The
hydrocarbon material that is used to create asphalt
is actually derived from the waste material left over
after the manufacture of gasoline, kerosene and
diesel fuels. Essentially, asphalt is a by-product of
the residue that is left behind after the more
desirable components of crude oil and petroleum have
been harvested. One of these by-products, bitumen, is
sometimes referred to as asphalt oil.
How long does it take to dry?
Asphalt is
softer than concrete. You shouldn't drive on a
freshly blacktopped driveway for three days and even
longer in hot conditions. It takes 2-12 months for
asphalt to fully harden and cure. You will receive a
pamphlet with a full set of care and maintenance tips
after we finish your driveway.
How long does it last?
Even in
our tough Minnesota winters, your asphalt driveway or
lot should last between 15 and 30 years (soil
conditions may affect longevity).
How long have you been in business?
Since
1947
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes.
Products and workmanship are guaranteed for one
year.
How far in advance do I need to call you?
Scheduling
is important with such a short warm season, but call
in the spring, and we'll fit you in!
I've heard about recycled materials used for road paving. What is it?
30% of our
product comes from recycled materials. In fact,
asphalt is the number one recycled material in the US
today. Eighty tons of asphalt pavement is recycled
each year. That's 20 tons more than all the paper,
compost, concrete, glass, plastics and metals
combined.
